Larva Labs is a creative technology studio and NFT pioneer founded in 2005 by software developers Matt Hall and John Watkinson. Based in New York, the duo gained international recognition for creating some of the earliest and most influential digital art projects on the blockchain, shaping the modern NFT landscape. Larva Labs’ breakout project, CryptoPunks, launched in 2017 as 10,000 unique pixel-art avatars on the Ethereum blockchain. It established the template for NFT profile-picture collections. Their 2019 project Autoglyphs introduced fully on-chain generative art, where algorithmic code itself forms the artwork. In 2021, Meebits expanded their vision into 3D voxel characters with an embedded, no-fee trading marketplace.
