A sell-only TokenTrader: it hands out lots of one ERC-20 asset at a fixed price in ether and never buys any back.

Historical Significance

A vending machine for a token: one asset, one direction, one price, with no counterparty to find and no exchange to trust. It is the shape a token sale took once the sale was simply an inventory sitting in a contract rather than a campaign with a deadline.

Context

Deployed in late 2016 and early 2017, after ERC-20 had settled the transfer interface but before automated market makers with a pricing curve existed. Trading a token then meant a centralised exchange listing it or a contract like this one quoting a fixed price.

Description

A trading contract from the earlier, sell-only TokenTrader design. It holds one ERC-20 asset, and a buyer who sends ether receives whole lots of it at a fixed price, with any remainder refunded and the order capped by what the contract actually holds. There is no buy side at all: the contract never takes tokens back.

The asset, the lot size and the price are fixed in the constructor and no function changes them. The owner may withdraw the asset, any other token sent by mistake, and the ether taken in. The switch that stops selling is exposed through activate(), which carries no owner check.

This one sells the token at 0x691cb5c5ba40947eb6dfb2f5169f8b15af196284 in lots of 10,000 token units at 0.03 ether per lot.
