A 2024 wrapper for ayeAyeCoin from August 2015, which also automates claiming from the original's on-chain faucet.

Historical Significance

Most wrappers only need to bridge an interface. This one also has to accommodate a distribution mechanism that no later token would have, because the faucet is part of how ayeAyeCoin works rather than an accident of its age. It is a good illustration of how far pre-standard tokens diverge: the wrapper cannot simply assume transfer and balances, it has to be written against a vocabulary that existed only in this contract.

Context

ayeAyeCoin was deployed in August 2015, three months before ERC-20 was proposed and only weeks after Ethereum mainnet launched. At that point there was no shared convention for what a token contract should look like, so each one invented its own function names. Reaching such a contract from modern tooling means writing an adapter specific to it.

Description

Wrapped AyeAyeCoin (WAAC) was deployed on 27 May 2024 and wraps ayeAyeCoin from 20 August 2015. Its verified source references the original contract.

ayeAyeCoin predates ERC-20 entirely and shares none of its vocabulary. Where a standard token has transfer, approve and balanceOf, ayeAyeCoin has sendCoin, coinBalanceOf and coinBeg, the last being a public faucet that hands out coins on request. Alongside the usual wrap and unwrap, this wrapper provides claimAndWrap, which calls the faucet and wraps the result in a single transaction.
